NAME:

ENVIROSTAIN - BINDER FOR WIPING STAIN

DESCRIPTION:

ELBWS is a binder in our EnviroStain system. All of the EnviroStain Binders are concentrates that are intended to be mixed with water prior to use. This binder is the primary resin for making wiping stains. ELBWS has a very slow dry time to allow for wiping on large pieces as well as minimizing lap lines during the wiping process. It offers good uniformity of colour when used with the ELTINT series of micronized pigments and has minimal grain raising. The addition of ELBSS will provide more contast and pore marking. Please see our product preparation guide below for recommended starting formulations.

USES:

This product is designed for interior wood finishing applications such as cabinetry, tables, furniture and millwork. The finished stain (Binder + Water + Tints/Dyes) can be sprayed or wiped on and then wiped off prior to finishing.

SANDING:

Substrate should be sanded with 180 grit sandpaper prior to applying any stains. Finer grit sandpaper (240/280) can be used to minimize sanding scratches or swirls.

PRODUCT PREPARATION:

Start with 20% ELBWS Binder and add up to 10% ELBSS Binder for addditional pore marking and contrast or up to 10% of ELBDG Binder to improve stain uniformity. Add up to 15% ELTINT Micronized Pigment, up to 5% ELDYE Dye Concentrate can be added if desired to increase vibrancy. Add water to bring the total mix balance to 100%.

RECOMMENDED APPLICATION:

Application is spray on wipe off or wipe on wipe off, either cup gun, HVLP turbine, pressure pot or air-assisted airless spray. Apply a wet coat in a single or double pass, covering the entire area to be stained. Remove excess stain with a clean, lint-free rag, giving a final wipe in the direction of the wood grain.

Number of Coats: 1
Maximum Dry Film Build: NA
Coating Temperature at Application: 18°C (65°F) or higher

After application this product needs to be wiped off using a clean, dry rag or sponge to ensure adhesion and correct colour appearance.

If the stain is left on too long and begins to dry, wiping off with a dry rag can result in lap lines. To minimize lap lines re-wet the area with more stain on a partially wet rag and wipe off using the same rag.

Note that when using pigments and dyes together in the same colour the storage stability of the colour will be reduced depending on the concentrations used.

To ensure colour consistency, stains must be shaken/mixed prior to use and should be under low agitation if being used in production for a prolonged period.
